Tuesday Night Live will kick off the Brown Bag Concert Series on Thursday at Cogswell Plaza in Palo Alto.
Matthew Travisano and Mary McGloin co-star in "Pierre and Marie," which concludes its run this weekend at the Bus Barn Theatre.
Thursday
Tuesday Night Live, a 17-piece Big Band, will kick off the Brown Bag Concert Series today at noon at Cogswell Plaza, located at the corner of Lytton Avenue and Ramona Street. The Menlo Park-based group has a repertoire of hundreds of Big Band arrangements, from the 1930s through today. Admission is free. Howard Wiley Quintet will perform tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Stanford Shopping Center, in the gardens of the Clock Tower Plaza (near Neiman Marcus), as part of Summer Jazz 18. Wiley plans to deliver a mix of funky blues, Ellington tunes and original compositions. The concert is co-sponsored by SFJAZZ. Admission is free. "TheatreWorks" will launch its 35th season this week with its production of "Arcadia" by British playwright Tom Stoppard. The play, which "Arcadia" follows the eccentric inhabitants of a 19th-century estate and the pair of modern-day historians who probe their every move, will preview tonight at 8 p.m. at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. (corner of Mercy). "Arcadia" will open on Saturday at 8 p.m. Show times are Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. (no show July 6); Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m.; Sundays at 2 and 7 p.m. (no show July 4; 2 p.m. performance only on July 11). "Pierre and Marie" will be presented through June 19 at the Bus Barn Theatre, 97 Hillview Ave. in Los Altos. The production is a biographical comedy about Pierre and Marie Curie, adapted by Ron Clark from the French original, "Les Palmes de M. Schutz," by Jean-Noel Fenwick. Show times are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances. Group discounts are available. "Come Celebrate Brazil," an art walk and block party, will take place tonight from 6 p.m. to midnight on Ramona Street, between University and Hamilton Avenues. "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" will be presented by the Palo Alto Players tonight at 8 p.m. at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto. The Stanford Jazz Festival, will showcase The George Brooks Summit tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Stanford's Dinkelspiel Auditorium. The summit will feature George Brooks on saxophone, Zakir Hussain on tabla and percussion, Kai Eckhardt on bass and Fareed Haque on guitar. The Museum of American Heritage will host a vintage car show today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Classic cars (some dating from 1902), bicycles, motorcycles and other vehicles will be on display. Live music and entertainment, prize drawings, food booths and children's activities will also be part of the festivities. The event will kick off at 10 a.m. at Addison School, located at the corner of Addison Avenue and Middlefield Road in Palo Alto, and will continue until 4 p.m. The event entrance will be on Addison. Hidden Villa will host a Father's Day Concert tonight featuring ZunZun, who will be joined by their three-piece band, Chuchumbe. ZunZun highlights the rich spectrum of cultures and environments of North, Central and South America. The concert will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the outdoor stage at the Visitors Welcome Center, situated in a meadow at the entrance to the farm. Hidden Villa is located at in Los Altos Hills. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, as well as a blanket or lawn chairs. Snacks and drinks will be sold. Tickets are $15 adults; $12/students and seniors; $7.50 for children 12 and under; free for kids two and under. The California Youth Symphony will perform today at 2:30 p.m. at Spangenberg Theatre, 780 Arastradero Road in Palo Alto. The program, entitled "Celebration of Movie Music," will include a selection of the pieces the CYS Senior Orchestra will perform on their tour of Italy, including film suites from "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Lord of the Rings" and "Star Wars."
