CHOIR TAKES FLIGHT . . . The Palo Alto High School Concert Choir is currently touring various venues in Europe with its blend of Spanish, French and American folksongs. The group of 36 students and five chaperones left Monday and will return June 23 after visiting and performing in Barcelona, Pamplona, San Sebastian and Paris.
CABLE CASH . . .Comcast has awarded two Palo Alto high school students $1,000 scholarships as part of its 2004 Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program. Caitlin Cameron of Castilleja High School, and Catherine Sun of Gunn High School received this year's Comcast scholarship based on their community service, leadership skills, positive attitudes and academic achievements.
BENEFIT FOR CHARTER . . .The Phoenix Academy, formerly known as the School of Wisdom and Knowledge, held its first annual benefit Saturday night to celebrate the next five years as a Ravenswood City School District, charter. The benefit was held at the Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto, and former mayor of San Francisco Willie Brown, was the guest speaker. LEAVING MIDDLE GROUND . . .Woodside Priory School, in Portola Valley graduated 36 eighth-graders in a ceremony earlier this month in the school's chapel. Students received diplomas, as well as plaques covered with personal messages from their teachers. Peter Hurtubise, class valedictorian, reminisced about the experiences that created lasting friendships, including a scary, but successful, ropes course and a prayer the evening of Sept. 11, 2001. "I hope and pray that we will never take for granted all the gifts and all the opportunities," Hurtubise told his classmates.

SAFETY SAFARI . . .The Stanford Shopping Center will host the Simon Kidgits Club Summer Safari, an event dedicated to child safety and summer fun, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Families are invited to check out the various educational and interactive stations, such as the Wheels of Summer booth featuring skateboards, roller blades, bikes and cars, the Hydration Station offering free beverages, and the Summer Activities booth featuring hopscotch and jump rope.
