This year's seven Lifetimes of Achievement winners helped build communities, break down cultural barriers,

These are the stories of seven lives who, through perseverance and compassion, have shaped a community.

Whether it be through their time, art, love or skills, Art and Marjorie Gleim, Barbara Roberts, Ned Mansfield, Barbara Mouton, Gloria Leiderman and Bill Bloom have left an indelible mark on the Midpeninsula. For their altruistic and self effacing feats, Avenidas will honor the seven with its Lifetimes of Achievement award.

The honorees, all over 70 years of age, were chosen for their exemplary service and involvement in the community, as well as the depth and significance of their work. Past recipients of the 15th annual award have included writer and teacher Wallace Stegner; businessman and philanthropist David Packard; and Nonette Hanko, active conservationist and co-founder of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.

The honorees will be celebrated during an event May 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the garden of La Casa Abierta, 1247 Cowper St., Palo Alto.
