New library director seeks community's opinion

Paula Simpson, the new director of Palo Alto's libraries, will host a community discussion on Thursday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Art Center auditorium, 1313 Newell Road, Palo Alto. Simpson, 50, assumed the posted on March 22. Her position reports directly to City Manager Frank Benest.

Most recently, Simpson spent 14 years as director of libraries in Monterey. There, she headed a system that was approximately half the size of Palo Alto's in terms of collection size, circulation, staff and budget. Like Palo Alto, Monterey also has a Friends of the Library organization.

After soliciting public opinions about the library system, Simpson hopes to set out a strategic plan that involves both the library and its supporting organizations.

The event is free and refreshments will be served. For information, call (650) 329-2516 or e-mail pa.library@cityofpaloalto.org.
