FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY. . . Volunteers -- and fruit tree owners -- are needed to pick fruit on Sunday, April 25, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Anyone with extra fruit to share, or with time to pick, can call Joni Diserens of the Village Harvest group at (650) 740-7725. Volunteers, with gloves and fruit pruners (also trucks, orchard ladders and boxes, if you have them), should meet at Foundation for Global Community, 222 High St., Palo Alto, at 12:30 p.m. All that tax-deductible, donated fruit will be taken to the Second Harvest Food Bank. PLANT AND BAKE SALE . . . The Garden Club of Los Altos will hold its spring plant and bake sale on Tuesday, April 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the garden outside Christ Episcopal Church, l040 Border Road, Los Altos. Look for unusual plants from members' gardens -- perennials, bulbs, trees and succulents. The club will also meet at 1:30 p.m., when Carolyn Craft, who has more than 1,000 varieties of irises in her Los Gatos garden, will speak. $5 fee.
GARDENING IN SMALL SPACES . . . Landscape designer Susie Mader will teach a class on Container Gardening tomorrow, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Common Ground, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. The class will deal with gardening in small spaces, such as patios, decks and balconies. Learn to grow fresh herbs, edible flowers and even vegetables on your deck. Fee is $17. SPRING PLANT EXCHANGE . . . There's still time to dig up your extra plants (and label them) to bring to the Garden Club of Los Altos' semi-annual plant exchange on Saturday, May 1, from 9 a.m. to noon, next to the Hillview Community Center parking lot, 97 Hillview Ave., Los Altos. Anyone with extra seedlings, cuttings, bulbs, small trees or shrubs to share can swap them for something more enticing. The event is co-sponsored by Los Altos Recreation Department. BONSAI DEMONSTRATIONS . . . The Kusamura Bonsai Club of Palo Alto will host its 44th annual show tomorrow, noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Campus Center at De Anza College, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino. Admission is free. The show includes displays of 150 miniature trees, demonstrations both days at 1:30 p.m., a photo exhibit, and consignment plants for sale. FLORAL BEAUTY . . . Home Floral Design program graduates Debbie Kundrat and Kathie Shaw will teach a class on "Springtime Solutions for Beautiful Arrangements" tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside. The class is an introduction to home flower arranging and will include simple techniques using seasonal flowers. Fee is $45 and includes materials.
