DAVIS CUP GUYS . . . The U.S. Davis Cup team definitely has a Cardinal glow these days, thanks to three former members of the Stanford men's tennis team. Twins Mike and Bob Bryan make up the No. 1 doubles team for the U.S. while Patrick McEnroe is the team captain. All three had plenty to celebrate last weekend during the USA's 3-1 triumph over Sweden at Delray Beach, Fla. The Bryans gave the U.S. a 2-1 lead on Saturday with their 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Jonas Bjorkman and Thomas Johansson. The Bryans punctuated their victory by bumping chests, something they started during their days at Stanford, when they helped the Cardinal go 54-2 in dual matches and win back-to-back NCAA titles. The Americans clinched Sunday when Andy Roddick beat Bjorkman, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, 6-0. The U.S. was 35-0 since 1987 when taking a lead into Sunday. The Bryans, the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the world, improved to 3-0 in Davis Cup play with their triumph. "This is the best atmosphere we've ever been a part of ," Mike Bryan said. "We've never been so jacked, and we're definitely going to bring out that chest bump every time we win a Davis Cup match. The U.S. now advances to the Davis Cup semifinals, set for Sept. 24-26. The Americans will host. Other teams advancing are Belarus, France and Spain.
