KUDOS FOR THEATREWORKS. . . TheatreWorks received 17 Bay Area Critics Circle Awards for the company's 2003 productions, the most of any theater company in the Bay Area. Top honors included awards in the drama and musical categories, with recognition going to "Proof," "Jane Eyre," "A Little Night Music" and "Bat Boy."

"A Little Night Music" scored six wins, including principal performance for Charlotte Cornwell and Allen Fitzpatrick, best sound, set, lighting, and costume design. TheatreWorks Artistic Director Robert Kelley received the award for best director for a musical for his work on "Jane Eyre." The production also garnered principal performance honors for Margaret Nichols in the title role and David Hess. "Bat Boy" received two awards, for musical direction by William Libertore, and best ensemble. "Proof," received three awards: principal performance for Sarah Overman, supporting performance for Mark Phillips, and best light design for Steve Manshardt.

KUDOS FOR PALO ALTO . . . An annual survey by a partnership of leading music and educational organizations has named Palo Alto Unified School District one of the best 100 communities for music education in America for 2004.

Representing 30 states, the roster includes school districts whose commitment to quality music education, measured across a variety of economic, curricular and programmatic criteria, has enabled them to excel, despite the many pressures that are hampering programs across the country.
