PRETTY PRINCESS . . . If you have an extra prom dress lying around the house - new or used - you can donate it to The Princess Project, a Bay Area volunteer group that gives free formal dresses and accessories to local women, companies and girls who cannot afford to buy them. The dress drive began in late February and it runs through March 21. Dresses have to be dry-cleaned and on hangers and they must be formal and/or fancy. Dresses and accessories need to be in style, and accessories have to be clean and in great condition. All donations can be dropped off at Anthropologie, 999 Alma St. in downtown Palo Alto. Items will be handed out on Saturday, March 27 and Saturday, April 3 at 528 Folsom St. in San Francisco. For more information visit www.princessproject.org.
CAREERS IN GEAR . . . Menlo Park's Mid-Peninsula High School is holding its first career day on Wednesday, March 31. About 50 speakers from 30 different professions are expected to attend - including a piano tuner, forensic scientist and veterinarian. SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY . . . Today middle and high school students from throughout Santa Clara County will go for scientific gold at the county's science fair, the Synopsys Silicon Valley Science and Technology Championship. The event, which started yesterday, brings more than 800 students together to compete for cash and prizes. Local scientists and engineers are judging projects, and the event runs today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Members of the public can come check projects out for free this evening from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
POINTING FINGERS . . . The Palo Alto PTA Council is looking for people and groups that are deserving of its annual honorary service awards. If you think you know somebody or some organization that's gone above and beyond the call of duty, send in a nomination to the council via Elaine Hahn. Nominations can be sent to Elaine, c/o PTA Council, 25 Churchill Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94306. Nominations must be received by April 2, and awards will be presented at the council's annual luncheon on May 21.
