SOCCER TRIP . . . Stanford soccer team members Nicole Barnhart, Jennifer Farenbaugh and Hayley Hunt will travel to China from
March 17-29 to compete with the United States Under-21 National Team. The three are scheduled to visit Shanghai and Huai'an Jiangsu to compete in 3-4 games potentially against the Shanghai Women's Team, the Jiangsu Women's Team, the China Women's Team and the China Women's Youth Team. Barnhart, Farenbaugh and Hunt have already been training in several U-21 camps in the past months at the Home Depot Center in Carson. Stanford's Rachel Buehler, who has participated in two U-19 training camps recently, has returned from a trip to Mexico where the U.S. U-19 National Team faced the Mexican National Team.
FITNESS WEEKEND . . . The Paul Spangler Memorial 8K run (and 5K racewalk) will be held Sunday at Stanford. The run is open to men and women age 50 as part of the Fitness Over 50 Fitness Weekend. The racewalk is open to all ages and begins at 8:30 a.m. at Stanford Stadium. The Fitness Walk starts at 8:45 a.m. while the run starts at 9 a.m. Race-day registration is $25. The 50-Plus Fitness Weekend also includes a health conference and awards dinner on Saturday and a health fair following race events. MENLO NOTES . . . Menlo College football coach Mark Kaanapu has hired Mike Carrozzo and Mark Greib as assistant coaches. Carrozzo will coach the Oaks' wide receivers while Greib will oversee the quarterbacks in 2004. Carrozzo comes to Atherton after four seasons as head coach at Prospect High in Saratoga. Greib is the current quarterback of the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. He was the league's Offensive Player of the Year in 2002.
SOCCER NEWS . . . The Union Football Club is a recently formed CYSA club located in Palo Alto and will be holding tryouts. The MVLA CyberRays, a CYSA Under-12 girls' Class 3 (born after 7/31/91) is looking for several fast, skilled and dedicated players to help the team move up to the next level.
