GET READY FOR SPRING . . . David Basile, an apprentice at Ecology Action in Willits, will offer two classes on Saturday, March 13. From 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. he'll talk about "Double-digging & Garden Bed Preparation," including building soil structure to let the plants grow in less water; the class includes a demonstration at a nearby garden. From 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. he'll teach "Grow Biointensive Composting," and go to a neighborhood site to build a pile. Bring a five-gallon bucket of grass clippings, weeds and kitchen scraps (no meat). PARADE OF FLOWERS . . . Filoli's annual "Spring at Filoli" festival, welcoming visitors to experience a vast expanse of flowering bulbs and annuals, will be held Saturday, March 13, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Festivities include performances by the Highlighters of Broadway by the Bay, demonstration by botanical artists and silk flower arrangers, as well as a hands-on, greenhouse workshop for children. Admission is $15 for adults, $1 for children 2-12, free for children under 2. Box lunches are available for purchase, but must be reserved in advance. For tickets, call (650) 364-8300, ext. 508. ALL SET TO SHOW . . . Ed Yesan will discuss grooming roses for the annual rose show at the next meeting of the Peninsula Rose Society, Wednesday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. The group meets at the Veterans Memorial Center, 1455 Madison Ave., Redwood City. For information, call (650) 591-6988.
15 MINUTES OF FAME . . . Palo Alto interior designer Joe Hittinger will be featured on HGTV's "Sensible Chic" on Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. And, the wine cellar he created for last year's Designer Showcase will be included in Schiffer Publishing's "Decorator Show Houses: Tour 250 Room," which comes out this spring.
