LEARN FROM THE WEEDS . . . Biologist Ron Whitehurst will teach a class on "Weeds as Indicators" Saturday, March 6, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, at Common Ground, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. Participants are asked to bring in their favorite weeds for identification and discussion. Whitehurst will talk about how weeds can be used to test soil and demonstrate growing conditions. WHAT THRIVES HERE? . . . Jeff Rosendale will discuss "Great Plants for California's Mediterranean Climate" Tuesday, March 2, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Gamble Garden Center, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. GROW PLANTS FROM SEEDS . . . Molly Barker, director of education at Filoli, will teach a class on "Sowing the Vegetable and Cutting Garden" Saturday, March 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Filoli, 86 Canada Road, Woodside. The class will focus on sowing seeds in containers and directly in the garden bed, transplanting seedlings and caring for new plants. Fee is $45; tickets go on sale to the public March 1.
