TAKE GOOD NOTES . . . Writer, lecturer and gardener Gail Holmen will speak on "Documenting Our Gardens and What Rewards It Brings to Us," at the next meeting of the Garden Club of Los Altos on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1:30 p.m. There is a $5 fee. PROPAGATION BASICS . . . Master gardener Jim Kern, who is also a horticultural consultant, landscape contractor and Foothill College instructor, will teach a class on Plant Propagation 101 on Saturday, Feb. 28, 9 to 11 a.m. The class for beginners, which covers starting plants with seeds, rooting simple cuttings, dividing large plants and soil preparation, will be held at the Elizabeth Gamble Garden Carriage House, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. Fee is $20 for members, $25 for non-members. Class size is limited to 25. Call (650) 329-1356. Kern will be teaching a class on Grafting Fruit Trees tomorrow from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Common Ground, 559 College Ave., Palo Alto. Fee is $19. VISITORS COMING? . . . Filoli, the National Trust for Historic Preservation property in Woodside, is now open through Oct. 30, 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with last admission at 2:30 p.m. Filoli is closed on Sunday and Monday and all federal holidays. Admission, which includes self-guided tours, guided tours and nature hikes, is $10 for adults, $5 for students, $1 for children ages 7-12, free for children under 7.
