: Castilleja School and Eastside Prep of Palo Alto will present "Dancing for a Difference" on Thursday at Castilleja School Chapel Theater.
Cellist David Winckel and pianist Wu Han will appear on Thursday at the Community School of Music and Arts.
Thursday
Cellist David Winckel and pianist Wu Han will appear tonight from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Community School of Music and Arts, 230 San Antonio Circle (between California and Central Expressway) in Mountain View. Presented by the Community School of Music and Arts' free Stanford Lively Arts Informance Series, the event will also allow audiences to hear Finckel and Han speak about their approach to their work and play musical excerpts. Admission is free, but limited seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be no advance seating. "Dancing for a Difference" will be jointly presented by Castilleja School and Eastside Prep of Palo Alto tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Castilleja School Chapel Theater, 1310 Bryant St. (corner of Embarcadero Road) in Palo Alto. The event will showcase original student dance performances. Admission is free, but there will be a suggested donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students/seniors benefiting Save the Children (www.savethechildren.org).
The Gunn High School Choir presents the 2004 Choir/Staff Musical Extravaganza, "Billy Bubba and the 40 Thieves" tonight at 8 p.m. at Spangenberg Theatre, 780 Arastradero Road in Palo Alto. The production will feature the Gunn Concert Choir, Treble Choir, Chamber Singers, the JLS Choir and over 50 Gunn staff members. Tickets are $12 adults/ $8 students and will be available in the Gunn Student Activity Office.

"Memphis" will be presented by TheatreWorks through Feb. 15 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St. Written by playwright Joe DiPietro and Bon Jovi composer-keyboardist David Bryan, the play chronicles a renegade deejay who played the music of black and white America together for the first time. Show times are Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2 and 7 p.m. "Visual Voice" audio-described performances will be available Feb. 13-14 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $20-$48; discounts are available for youth, students, seniors and members. "The Winter's Tale" will be presented through Feb. 14 at the Bus Barn Theatre, 97 Hillview Ave. in Los Altos. One of Shakespeare's last works, the play is a profound explanation of the simple miracles in life and the forces that shape them -- love, friendship, jealousy and forgiveness. Russell Rickford will read from his latest book, "Betty Shabazz: A Remarkable Story of Survival and Faith before and after Malcolm X," today at noon at the Stanford University Bookstore, located at White Plaza. John Cleese will be interviewed tonight at 7 p.m. by San Francisco Chronicle book editor David Kipen at Spangenberg Theatre, 780 Arastradero Road in Palo Alto. Clips will be shown from some of Cleese's most memorable TV and film projects. Time will be made available for a question-and-answer period. "The Barber of Seville" will be presented by West Bay Opera tonight at 8 p.m. at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto.
