UTILITY BOX ART COMPETITION. . . A dozen artists will be commissioned to paint 12 traffic signal pedestal boxes, all located on University Avenue, Hamilton Avenue or Lytton Avenue. The theme of the murals, scheduled for completion in April 2004, is energy conservation.
The boxes will all be 14'' wide and 24'' high. Artists will be paid $500, with materials supplied by the Public Art Commission. While this is an open competition, preference will be given to artists living or working in Palo Alto.
Proposals to the Palo Alto Public Art Commission will be due by Feb. 6. Questions regarding the selection process or the project should be directed to Leon Kaplan, director of Arts and Culture for the City of Palo Alto, at (650) 329-2227.
This project marks the second collaboration between the Palo Alto Public Art Commission and Palo Alto Utilities. The first was the California Avenue project called "Sun Flowers."
