Palo Alto City Council . . . The council will vote Monday night on setting up a Business Improvement District in downtown. The district will assess fees on businesses to help market businesses and make improvements to downtown. The council will also discuss the job description for the now-vacant city attorney position. The council will meets at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall (250 Hamilton Ave.).

Palo Alto Unified School District . . . The school board is expected to meet Tuesday night to discuss the district's budget, with an update based on the governor's Jan. 10 budget draft. It will also look at Palo Alto Chinese Education's plan for a Mandarin immersion program. The school board meet at 7 p.m. in the Board Room, Palo Alto Unified School District Office (25 Churchill Ave.).

Palo Alto Planning and Transportation Commission . . . The commission will meet Wednesday night to discuss zoning ordinance changes to encourage more housing ("village" and "transit-oriented"). It will also discuss the conditional use permit for Antonio's Nut House. The commission meets at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers, City Hall (250 Hamilton Ave.).
