Final push for Holiday Fund
Final push for Holiday Fund
(January 09, 2004) Campaign hopes to raise $300,000
Donations from the Arrillaga and Peery foundations of $10,000 each have helped push the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund closer to its ambitious $300,000 goal.
The two local family foundations have been strong supporters of the Holiday Fund, and their gifts this year come at a time when donors and contributions are down from last year.
"The Arrillaga and Peery families quietly support so many important community causes," Weekly publisher Bill Johnson said. "We are pleased that they are once again helping us to fund as many good programs serving families and children as possible."
As of Tuesday, the Holiday Fund had raised $140,000 from 652 donors. With matching funds from the David and Lucile Packard and William and Flora Hewlett foundations, $100,000 has been added to that total. While contributions are accepted year-round, gifts received through the end of February will be distributed as part of this year's grant-making process.
Co-sponsored by Community Foundation Silicon Valley and with grant support from the Packard and Hewlett foundations, the Holiday Fund is a way for local residents to support nonprofit groups in the Palo Alto area.
Because the Weekly donates all the advertising space and administrative expenses, all money received is paid out in grants.
Grant applications for this year's funding are due on Jan. 30 and are available on PaloAltoOnline.com or by contacting Amy Renalds at the Palo Alto Weekly, (650) 326-8210.
