LOCAL SOCCER NEWS . . . The Menlo-Alpine Pumas, a CYSA Class-3 for girls born after July 31, 1992, will be holding tryouts Saturday and Sunday at Menlo Park's La Entrada School from 1- 3 p.m. For more information: 851-8263 . . . The Stanford Tornados, a new Girls Under-10 CYSA Class 3 team, will hold tryouts Sunday from 1-3 p.m., and again Wednesday from 2-4 p.m., both at Greer Park, Field 5. The CYSA Strikers FC will hold tryouts Saturday (10-11 a.m.) and Sunday (1:30-3:30 p.m.) at Hillview School in Menlo Park for Class 1 and 3 teams for boys U-8 through U-13. SOFTBALL SIGNUPS . . . The first day for walk-in registration for the 2004 Palo Alto Girls' Softball league season will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon in Room H-1 at the Cubberley Community Center. Other signup sessions at Cubberley will be Jan. 21 from 7-9 p.m. and again Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to noon. Players ages 5-15 also can register online at www.paloaltogirlssoftball.org. The league, affiliated with the Amateur Softball Association (ASA), serves players from Palo Alto, Menlo Park, East Palo Alto and Los Altos Hills. The spring season begins in March and runs through June.
