'WOOD' YOU LIKE TO MAKE SOMETHING? . . . Palo Alto Adult School is offering a number of classes for acquiring home skills. In "Beginning Woodworking" you can make a small table in 10 weeks beginning Tuesdays, Jan. 6-March 9, or make a bathroom/small wall cabinet on Wednesdays, Jan. 7-March 10, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Cost is $169 for each class, plus the cost of the wood. A mixed-level woodworking class (after at least two quarters of beginning woodworking) is offered for eight weeks, Mondays, Jan. 5-March 8, $139 plus materials. Enrollment is limited to 18 for each class. For information, call (650) 329-3752 or visit www.paadultschool.org.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR . . . If one of your New Year's resolutions is to clean up the environment, you might want to participate in the Friends of Foothills volunteer days, Sunday, Jan. 4 through March 28, 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will be removing non-native plants that are a threat to the preserve. Bring protective gloves and drinking water, and meet at the Orchard Glen Picnic Area parking lot. For information, call Bob Roth at (650) 321-7882.
PASS ON KNOWLEDGE? . . . Farmers' Almanac TV is looking for people to be featured on the series, "Great American Traditions." If you have "exceptional knowledge of traditional American pastimes and practices and want to pass on that knowledge to future generations," visit www.FarmersAlmanacTV.com for details. Among the criteria is making a home more beautiful, interesting or functional. FATV suggests sending in a video demonstrating or teaching a skill, or a letter and photo describing your skill.
STILL LOOKING FOR GIFTS? . . . The city of Palo Alto is sending people to the Web sites www.ciwmb.ca.gov/recyclestore or www.consrv.ca.gov/DOR/GreenHolidayGuide02.pdf for gifts with recycled content. Think gift items made from coconut shells (picture frames), recycled cardboard (backgammon board) or old glass (glass paper weights).
