MENLO MUSINGS . . . The Menlo College women's basketball team decided a little pressure would go a long way, and after forcing 30 turnovers the Lady Oaks walked away with a 64-42 victory over visiting San Jose Christian on Saturday night. Those turnovers led to 28 points for Menlo (2-4), which was scheduled to host Fresno Pacific on Tuesday. Keisha Thomas scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds in 20 minutes. Ki'i Spencer-Vasconcellos added 14 points as Menlo shot just under 52 percent in the second half . . . The Menlo College men's basketball team dropped a pair of games in the Ted Wilson Classic at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon over the weekend. Mike Watters scored 32 points on 11-of-19 shooting but the Oaks lost to Willamette, 86-70, on Saturday night. Trevor Mates and Kyle Arneson each added 13 points. Menlo (1-4) opened the tournament with a 106-59 loss to host Linfield. Davy Egelhoff scored 11 points to lead the Oaks. Menlo travels to Honolulu for the Hawaiian Invitational beginning Saturday against Azusa Pacific. The Oaks meet Whitman on Sunday.

STANFORD LACROSSE . . . The Stanford women's lacrosse tam began a trip to Japan on Saturday, returning in time to celebrate Christmas. The trip is to promote the growth of lacrosse internationally, create cross-cultural ties, and to develop as players. The Cardinal will meet the Japanese National Team at a tournament organized for various Japanese colleges and All-Star teams. Stanford, the three-time defending WWLL champions, will play in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation this season. The Cardinal open on Feb. 14 with a home match against UC Davis.

LOCAL SOCCER NEWS . . . The MVLA CyberRays, a CYSA Girls' U-12 Class 3 (born after 7/31/91) is looking for several fast, skilled and dedicated players to help us move up to the next level. Our players are from Saratoga, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills. The team is trained by Simon Weiss (former player for University of North Carolina.) We are dedicated to the technical training of each player and seeing the ladies play a possession style of game.
