CALLING HAIKU POETS. . . A haiku poetry competition is currently underway. Approximately 16 winners will have their works displayed on the new parking facility being built behind Blockbuster Video, between Alma and High Streets. Winning poets will be honored at a special event, which will be held following completion of the parking structure.

English Haiku is defined as 17 syllables constructed in three lines of 5-7-5 syllables. The competition is open to anyone who lives, works or attends school in Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Stanford, Portola Valley, Woodside, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and East Palo Alto. SAN FRANCISCO FILM FESTIVAL TO SCREEN LOCALLY . . . Local screenings of the San Francisco Film Festival will take place April 27-30 at Century's CineArts at Palo Alto Square, 3000 El Camino Real in Palo Alto. The festival had previously screened films at the now-defunct Park Theatre in Menlo Park. Members of the San Francisco Film Society will be able to purchase an early-bird discounted pass for $35, which allows access to all screenings at the CineArts. Early-bird savings will be available online at www.sffs.org Feb. 17 - March 7. Preliminary information about the festival will be available at www.sffs.org beginning in early March.
