Is Miyake Gone for Good?

Original post made by Jan H, Old Palo Alto, on Oct 4, 2012

It looks like the long-time, much-evolved sushi restaurant has closed its doors. Was it finally a victim of its own bad service and dirty carpet? Or will it re-appear in another incarnation?

Twenty-five years ago, Miyake was a very high quality, clean, and traditional sushi bar. After it moved to its most recent location, though, it got very commercialized, tacky, loud, and rude. Very un-Japanese, very much a place for drunken Stanford students to hangout and vomit.

Miyaki's sushi was OK, but I hated that place. Noisy, messy and having to walk by the sidewalk with all the crowds outside was a pain in the neck. I never got the point of having such an unpleasant place for eating ... eating is something you want to do in a place you can feel comfortable and relaxed - but people are idiots and will fall for anything they are told is cool, and Miyaki got a lot of cool factor ... from somewhere. Good riddance.

So it looks like Miyake really is gone for good. Just as well. The food, service, and atmosphere had gone to the dogs.
