The biggest problem Palo Altan high school seniors face in applying to college is themselves. There are so many excellent students applying to 12 or more colleges and being accepted that the very good students don't have a hope. The colleges always take our top 10% and these same students get the multiple offers. Obviously they can't accept more than one place. This means that those who are not in the top 10% don't get accepted. I honestly believe that for some of our very good (but not excellent) students they would be a lot better off going to Oakland or somewhere for their senior year. They would have a lot better chance of getting into one of the UCs there than they do here.
