Palo Alto police to begin parenting program

A program designed to give parents skills in dealing with teens with significant behavior problems will be offered by the Palo Alto Police Department.

I am not against these classes, but I am concerned as to why it is the police who are doing this. I realise that the better educated the parents, the easier the police may find their job. I just wonder if the police are the right people to do it. If this is above board and police are being trained to teach parents, isn't this something outside of their job description?

This causes me to ask if certain parents of certain delinquents are being made to do the classes as part of some plea bargain?

Great idea! And a novel way to bring law enforcement into a place where they can effect prevention. Makes sense.
