Maybell Referendum Petition Kick-off Event - Sunday 6:30pm!

Original post made by Maybell neighbor, Green Acres, on Jun 30, 2013

A Referendum Petition Against the Re-Zone Ordinance Passed by the City Council for Maybell is now being circulated to gather signatures to place the re-zoning issue before the voters of Palo Alto.

We need your help to achieve this though. We need 3000 signatures in the next 28 days!

Come to the KICK-OFF PETITION GATHERING event on Sunday, June 30 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Juana Briones Park, near the kiddie structure across the street from the property. Enjoy some fresh homemade lemonade and cookies at the park. Signature gathering volunteers will also be at the farmer's market, grocery stores, and other venues in Palo Alto.

(If you come from another part of Palo Alto and share a common experience, we want to hear about what you are going through, too!)

Yes, I'll sign this petition. Mandatory re-zoning by the City and/or the City Council should not be allowed without a vote of the residents.

So, ABAG wants to force Palo Alto to build over 2,000 housing units over the next few years which means the City will be forced to buy up existing single family homes and re-zone them for multiple units. This has just happened on Maybell but could happen anywhere in Palo Alto and should be stopped right now.

If Palo Alto refuses ABAG's housing mandate they are threatened with loosing grant money for infrastructure repairs. In the immediate future this will mean the City won't get the money to remove two lanes of traffic on California Avenue - would this be so bad, in my opinion "No".

Just remember that is not any peace of paper, Only aPalo Alto resident, Adults, and eligible to vote, their Driver's License Number, complete address. The Department of Elections will verify one by one with the DMV, I am not signing it.

@Also Resident - may I ask if you are not signing because of the personal info requested? If so - can you please elaborate? I am asking since I am assuming that the process of checking the info does not go beyond the DMV (has info the anyways). Do you see any personal danger/harm that can result from providing the personal info to the Elections Department?

Good questions.

Is this for voters only? Many residents are not US citizens but do have a drivers license? Also, can non Palo Alto residents sign, I am thinking of say school teachers who work at the schools but are not Palo Alto residents?
