Mitchell Park Library

Original post made by What's the story? on Jun 1, 2013

Much has been written over the last year or so about the delays with the library at Mitchell Park. It seems that most of the blame has fallen on the head of the contractor--basically the city has laid the blame on him.
Recently the contractor submitted a response, in which he detailed the roadblocks put before him by the city. This got a story in the local newspapers and nothing else.
Has the Weekly looked into his contentions? Is the Weekly investigating why the library is really behind schedule and who is to blame? Or is it business as usual at the Weekly offices.

How about a link to that contractor's response?

Not surprisingly it looks like the weekly did not cover this story ( I used the search engine above to search palo alto online-- maybe it was in the print edition only or maybe the weekly is leading the one sided blame game )

I found this story in the daily news

There are always two sides to every story. Something makes me believe Flintco's story more than the city's.

The Mitchell Park Library remodel was incredibly poorly conceived, planned and executed. Who builds a library in the midst of the internet era? Who designs a complex so ugly and out-of-place w/ the look and feel of the neighborhood?

The Library commission that proposed this should be embarrased and ashamed. The city staff and city manager who oversaw the design should flat out be replaced.

You are correct, bd.

The staff who created it was first Paula Simpson, then Dianne Jennings led the bond issue and completion of the plans -both safely retired now.
Current Director LaConge promised the Library Board a few weeks ago just wait, it will be beautiful. Whistling in the dark.
Architects are Group4. They still work for us on Main. It appears there is enough bad work all over the place.
