Bike Accident at Greer and Embarcadero

Original post made by Mom, Duveneck/St. Francis, on Apr 22, 2013

Anyone know information about the accident at Greer and Embarcadero today? Looked like a child was hit. Our community really needs to help make it a safe place to be a kid.

Cars are driving through red lights on Embarcadero/Greer often. We have commuter traffic. They ought to put a red light camera at Embarcadero/Greer and Embarcadero/Louis - they are effective with its $450 fine.

I agree that red light running is rampant on that street. The street looks straight and empty, but the cross streets are not so obvious, so drivers don't even think about stop lights. The speed limit is 25mph which should give drivers plenty of visibility, but enforcement is too lax, creating a very dangerous situation for everyone.

3 different people all blaming drivers.

I have seen lots of kids doing dangerous things on bikes. We have no idea who was at fault.

I drive through the residential area east of Alma and south of Embarcadero every day, twice a day, and I cannot count the number of times I have seen students from Jordan and Paly sail blithely through stop signs and red lights with nary a look one way or the other, sometimes glued to what is no doubt an earth-shakingly important text message on their phone. That big red sign applies to bicyclists too. O_O
