Verde at PALY

Original post made by Paul Losch, Community Center, on Apr 15, 2013

My kids both attended PALY last decade, and enjoyed great experiences, went on to terrifc colleges and now as young adults are on their own with meaningful jobs. Thank you PALY!

We used to get Verde when my kids were students there. It was good, much better than anything I experienced in my well regarded Houston high school, and the students this year are doing breakthrough publishing and journalism.

First, and the easy one, the production values of this most recent issue are Platinum Class. I was stunned how good it is, not your typical student effort. This team is extraordinary.

Second, the difficult one. The content this issue is covering very difficult issues for people of any age--rape and tatoos. That the reporting is so first rate has gotten national attention, if not attention worldwide. It is as good as it gets. The students at PALY creating this issue of Verde are on a par with people who report for a living.

It is quite commendable that the adult leadership at PALY and the District are providing PALY journalism students to operate at this level. Anything even one tenth of the controversey that this issue of Verde covers, would not even gotten ink in my Texas high school, let alone national recognition.

Thank you PALY!

I second this. Heard the editor and reporters on KQED Forum this morning. They were bright, forthright, and quite mature discussing their work and the subject on that international stage. Good for them and their faculty mentors.
