2012 Olympics are here and all eyes on badminton

Original post made by David Vinokur, a former resident of the Crescent Park neighborhood, on Jul 25, 2012

The Queen is set to officiate tonight at the Opening Ceremony, and to ring in the kickoff, Big Ben chimed today for three minutes -- the first time this most notorious of bells has been rung 'outside its regular schedule' since 1952, to mark the funeral of QE2's father, King George VI. With my roving and ex-pat eye, allow me dear reader to continue with close focus on London and the 2012 Games.

I thought Britain's greatest band was Hawkwind, greatest author was A.A. Mile, greatest public institution was the local pub, and greatest movie star was Mackenzie Crook...?

Is that the nickname for Boris Johnson? He's a hoot, saw him on Jon Stewart a month ago. He had a couple words for Romnney yesterday, piling on Mitt's numerous unforced errors, rather capping Mitt's Not Very Good, Very Bad Day.

What did the papers print as headlines today? "Mitt the Twit"?

I think it is great that David Vinokur is taking the effort to do this. What a kick! I can remember carrying David on my shoulders on a snowy slope at Yosemite when he was but a toddler. It is much appreciated by the "Old Palo Alto" veteran.
