Special Education and PAUSD

Original post made by Parent of middle schooler with Dyslexia on Nov 8, 2006

Our child has Dyslexia and has an IEP at Jordan Middle School. I have been less than impressed with the way things have been handled. It is hard to tell whether other families are having issues as well. So I'm asking: How has your child done in Middle School / High school in regard to resources and can you offer any helpful suggestions?

Have you contacted the Community Advisory Committee for Special Ed in P.A.? www.cac-paloalto.org/contacts.htm
They have monthly programs and offer resources to link parents together for support in dealing with special ed. issues.

Many parents are quite shocked by the differences between the resource programs in elementary and secondary school. If you're looking for help with a particular problem or just want to talk to someone who understands, call the CAC for Special Education's hotline at 494-3712.

Morrissey/Compton Education Center has a trained and very helpful group of psychologists and educational specialists. They work closely with the parents and the child to do educational assessments. They have talented people on staff who can then work with the parents and the school to get an effective Individual Education Plan (IEP) in place.
