Original post made by Pro Choice on May 13, 2013

Fluoride may cause neurotoxicity in laboratory animals, including effects on learning and memory ...

Note that this IQ correlation was in groups exposed to very high levels of fluoride (up to over 10x the recommended level in US drinking water). The study also admits that more research needs to be done looking at the safety and benefits specifically at the levels in US drinking water supplies.
So, not quite a smoking gun, but definitely not an "everything's OK" confirmation either.

"The standardized weighted mean difference in IQ score between exposed and reference populations was 0.45..."
Golly gee, a -0.45 point weighted mean effect. At the genius IQ level, that's -0.30%. And from no less than a genuine meta-analysis.
