Thank you to the donors! What a great gift to Paly!
Before the pessimists get a chance to ungratefully complain about the donation not going to academics, someone posted on the earlier article:

"I believe I know the family that is doing this. . . you have no reason to assume this family isn't supporting academics in the school district. They support a broad range of things in the community including PiE and other educational initiatives. From my understanding, based on what was described in the school board meeting last night, the facility will be made available for community use, which is great."

Wow, eye-popping figure, but much appreciated, I'm sure. I do wonder at the ambitious schedule for completion. Doesn't the (slow) state of California control approvals of school construction and remodeling and haven't our schools been under construction for year after year for many of us...what makes you think this project would be expedited? Having our facilities in a state of perpetual constructiohn/disruption is a huge hassle and affected us when we had kids in school - now it is the same - and apparently it certainly would for this project. If there is any way to expedite/fast track this project, I recommend they move full speed ahead to do that - for all of our sakes.

So, this Donor wants to replace two existing gyms. Does he/she realize that one of those gyms was built in 1929, that's more than 50 years ago, so it must be declared "historic".
I don't think the "historic" zealots of Palo Alto will allow it to be torn down. Story to be continued in the Palo Alto World of Public Opinion!!!
