Exxon admits Climate Change is real. Kind of ironic they finally came around this week, given half the West is burning up, a quarter of our states are in "severe to extreme drought" Web Link , and millions went a week without power during a severe heat wave. Rather silences the mockery of the Fox news flunkies who snicker during every snowstorm in winter. Heard them lately? No, i didn't think so.
Exxon's CEO called it real, but is calling it a manageable engineering problem. "It's an engineering problem and it has engineering solutions..."
Tell that to folks in Colorado that lost their houses to record wildfires.
Tell folks around Washington without power for a week in record heat how the engineering solutions are going.
All while Exxon records record profits (not going to talk about the years they haven't paid taxes, and the tax subsidies we give an insanely profitable company.)
What can be done? Alternative energy. China is doing it. China invests far more in solar than America. Just last week, Germany broke a record as they continue to lead the world.
from the IEEE "Solar power plants in Germany peaked at 22 gigawatts of output for a few hours on Friday and Saturday, yielding almost half the country's energy needs from the renewable resource and setting a new record in the process. The not-particularly-sunny country has long been a leader in solar power thanks to favorable policies like feed-in tariffs. In the wake of the decision to shutter all of its nuclear plants, solar power will need to play an even bigger role in the future. That 22 gigawatts of output is equal to about 20 nuclear reactors." They have a long way to go, but they have the confidence and will to tackle a tough problem head-on, unlike certain Americans who insist we can't lead the world as we used to. No one would have believed Germany would have progressed so far, so fast if you had predicted it a decade ago.
Germany and other countries are able to do it. Why does such a vocal minority here believe America isn't better than other countries?
Now is the time.
