It's amazing to me that the Palo Alto Weekly can dismiss all challenges to the entrenched Democratic incumbents in the upcoming primary election as "relatively weak and minimally-funded opponents." There is no mention of the opponent's names, background, positions. To place a statement on the ballot costs roughly $8,000. Former Senator Russ Feingold noted that for a candidate to reach a voter with his/or her message costs about $1 per voter. In our Congressional District that means it costs about $400,000 to simply reach the voters with one message. The incumbent receives 70% of her money from corporations outside the district. Why not do a story on how our pay to play system is robbing democracy, assisting the plutocracy that doesn't want to be challenged?
