Family cycle ride.
Family cook out in the wildwoods - Foothills.

(All of the above can be done with picnic or bag lunch - Dad's favorite snacks brought along)
Family clean out the garage weekend with smiles instead of groans.
Family all wash the cars, vacuum, etc., with smiles instead of groans.

How about a movie marathon at home (or a game marathon, if there is a gam e on TV ) - with pop-corn, soda etc. And no "honey, can you run out and get
Seriously - this works out so great. Last year, we planned a movie marathon - the idea was to stay at home, not do any of the regular chores, have fun with each other and just chill out ! Going out, planning an outing - overall requires some work too; so we decided to get the "outside place" out of the planning.
All of us voted for our choice of movies, we decided what we wanted to eat during the day .. got the stuff ready ahead of time. Through out the day we watched the movies, talked, laughed, did a water fun day in the yard ..try it !

My dad lives fairly far away, and is almost always traveling on Father's Day, so it's hard to celebrate with him. I usually send him something a week or so ahead of his trip (he has a timeshare on Kauai and heads out the Friday before Father's Day) that he can take along -- usually a book or a CD or a DVD.
When I was considerably younger, and before I had kids myself, I would give him coupons for things to do with him -- take him to a movie, take him out for dinner, etc. He had a wine glass collection for a long time; I would usually add to that on his birthday but now and again would find something unique for the collection.
Another good idea for local dads is a gift certificate for a massage. Watercourse Way, SkinSpirit ... all great places to send dads.
