East Palo Alto unanimously backs new tenant-protection ordinance

East Palo Alto City Council Tuesday night unanimously threw its support behind a new tenant-protection ordinance after hearing more than a dozen residents urge city officials to protect tenants against displacement, a decline in affordable housing and an imbalance between tenants and landlords.

Getting rid of Magda Gonzalez as city manager and getting Equity Residential's Christopher Peter off of the rent board are two of the ways to protect residents. Now perhaps Mayor Laura Martinez won't be so eager to call Gonzalez her mentor. Will the mayor run again for office? Democracy in action!
