Thanks very much for this great article. I'll never forget the Christmas day when our backyard became very quiet. A hawk had flown in and perched low near the bird feeder. It sat there for about 10 minutes before flying away. Magical. May all the bird numbers be up this year.

So, is there any place in the Palo Alto vicinity to do this legally? Local Parks? Playing fields? Baylands? Foothills? Open Space District? Wander around here in the middle of the night with a pair of binoculars and get arrested.

Hey, we just saw a HUGE light-colored owl fly over Juana Briones school, a juvenile redtail hawk was sighted on a fence in the neighborhood last week, and of course the neighborhood falcon. Fewer crows, too....
