A Palo Alto man was shot and seriously injured Sunday afternoon while driving on University Avenue, according to police.
The shooting was picked up by ShotSpotter activation in the area of University Avenue and Kavanaugh Street shortly before 2 p.m., according to Detective Rod Tuason.
Police arriving at the scene were directed to University Avenue and Crescent Drive in Palo Alto, where they found the victim, a 26-year-old Palo Alto man, and his vehicle.
The victim had a single, life-threatening gunshot wound, and was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable but critical condition, Tuason said.
Investigators believe the victim and a friend were driving on University Avenue when a gunman began shooting at the moving vehicle, Tuason said.
The suspect fled and has not been located.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information should call East Palo Alto police at 650-321-1112.

From Google maps it looks all residential around there too. What is going on in EPA – it seems like someone is getting shot about once a week now?
Wow, hope the guy comes through. Assuming he was shot where the police system heard, I wonder why he kept driving another ~1.5mi down University from EPA to PA?
@Chris Zaharias: Would you really want to roll to a stop, after being shot, in the middle of EPA? Obviously the man’s survival instinct was intact, as he forged his way to relative safety. The mind, sensing danger, works this way.
Drug deal gone bad?
East Palo Alto city hall, police station, and fire station are 1 block from this location at University Ave & Bay Street. Very curious that they drove right past this location towards the freeway.

Another incredulous incident. Are all the local citizens so accustomed to these types of frequent and serious crimes in the local area that there is no call to action anymore???!!!
Kavanaugh off of university is a Known Drug activity area.
I’m assuming this person was not surprised at being shot at, and was probably heading for the hospital. This is unlikely to be a ‘random’ shooting at 2 pm on Sunday afternoon. He didn’t want to stop at City Hall — no one there. Police station is down at the other end of Bay Road. EPA is a great small city with a few very bad apples. I work there and travel all over the city nearly every day with no worries. There are lots of good families trying to get a better life for their children, and this is the start.
A lot of people in EPA do not want to “get involved” for fear of retaliations.
I remember an incident years ago when a little old lady in EPA had a rough time when she was trying to rid the neighborhood of the bad apples and violence. She had the “Guardian Angels” from San Francisco come to aid…a bit late, but she sure tried her best…( Editor, if you remember this, please refresh the memory of her incident…) I never heard anymore about this woman, but if EPA is EVER to get cleaned up, it is going to take more than just ONE little old lady to do it……………….Way over due………….
Social Butterfly, you’re referring to CW Roddy, who died fairly recently. I don’t recall who called the Guardian Angels to come help. She actually did have a body guard who wasn’t a GA, because the FBI had confirmed some either legit info or a solid rumor that there was a price on Roddy’s head for standing up against some local small time drug dealer(s). Roddy was hit by gunfire while she was home w/her adult son during the holidays – NYE, I think it was. It was generally thought that the shooter lived across the street & was a young thug.
Mrs. Roddy wasn’t a “little old lady”, by the way. She was older, yes, but she was strong, not small, intelligent, and used to standing up for herself and being involved in her community.
EPA’s crime problems have vastly improved since then. It was much more of the Wild Wild West back in 1990, when Mrs. Roddy was shot. May she rest in peace.
