Given that the Cloud is everywhere--does it really matter where the Yelp engineers are? They could just as easily be in the middle of the dessert, or on the moon.

More traffic, and not much in terms of revenue for the City to pay for whatever services they require.

Maybe this move is good for Yelp--but not so much for Palo Alto.

Yes it does matter where the engineers are. Modern software is very complex and engineers are much more productive if they can easily meet their co-workers in person. The new office is conveniently adjacent to the Caltrain station so this location can easily create more revenue for local merchants without adding any local car traffic. This is not like Google or Facebook opening a new campus out in the middle of nowhere. Win win for everyone.

Perhaps someone would like to give a yelp review to the dessert they could be stuck in. Strawberry fool, perhaps?
