I was never, particularly, a fan of Jack Morton, even though I had nothing against him. He was just there, as far as I was concerned. However, as I reflect on his tenure on the council, I have gained a lot of respect for him.
Mr. Morton was never part of the "in" crowd on the Council. He was denied any chance of becoming mayor by his fellow councilmembers. He kept his cool about that slap in the face. About a week ago, he was the only councilman to say that partisan national politics is not what he was elected for. That was so refreshing to hear!
Morton also requested police protection when one of the local angries got angry (again). He was attacked by the free-speech-at- any-price crowd. Just tonight, there was a multiple killing at a city council meeting in this country ( Web Link ). Morton's sober decision looks very good, now.
Jack Morton also stood up to Ladorris Cordell, and her race baiting. Good for him...it was long overdue.
Is there a legal way to get him appointed as Mayor, at this late date? He is a man with intregity.
