In the past week or so, I have found out that some of my friends and acquaintances have decided to vote for Obama in the primaries. One has even decided to volunteer for his campaign.
When I ask them if they have read his program, particularly on Social Security, I get blank stares. This is really unfortunate.
Social Security is a big issue. However, I take issue with the way Obama wants to solve the problems with social security. You see, Obama wants to eliminate the ceiling on social security taxes (which currently stands at a little below $98,000).
In an area like Palo Alto, this should elicit some strong reactions, but people don't even seem to know it!
Take a family of four, with one income, a stay at home mom, and potentially one or more college students in the family. They live in Palo Alto. Their income is between $100,000 and $200,000. In most areas of this country, this would be a really high income. In Palo Alto, it is middle class. You have to watch it to make your mortgage payment, college tuition, and be able to make ends meet financially. If Obama is elected, your taxes will shoot up because of his proposal on Social Security.
Do you really think you can afford this?
Then, please, if, like many of us, you would end up in that situation with Obama as president, please, please, reconsider your support for Obama.
I am voting Clinton.
