Some residents of the Palo Alto foothills lost electricity early Sunday morning when a car crash sheered off a pole and knocked out power.
The driver of the car in the single-vehicle crash complained of back pain and asked to be transported to a hospital, Palo Alto Fire Department Battalion Chief Don Dudek said.
The crash occurred at 12:04 a.m. at Page Mill Road and Old Page Mill Road.

Once again, power was lost when a car crashed into a power pole and brought down the line.
When will it sink in that it will cost less money in the longterm if all power lines in urban areas were put under ground. The initial cost of doing this would pay off in the money saved at each winter storm when there is no need to pay utility workers for their time and the equipment costs when a storm could go by without any power outages.
Granted, this power pole was more rurally situated and it may not be efficient to underground the powerlines here, but the same truth applies. Above ground power lines are in essence subject to more cuts than if the lines were underground.
I trust that the driver will recover. If there was no pole, he may have been saved from any pain and indeed any accident.
Resident the last undergrounding of Utility Services cost each home owner in excess of $6,000. If Palo Alto Utilities were to pay for the undergrounding instead of paying Enron’s creditors $21 Million it would make sense.
What group created the socialist operation known as the California ISO?
Well that would be a group of Democrats that were out to cheat Californians and successfully did cheat all Californians out of the money with the help of the thieves at Enron. When you swim with sharks the bigger sharks will eat you, Thank you California Democratic Party, for nothing.
When Assembly Bill 1890 was enacted in 1996 to create the CA ISO, the vote was 73-0 in the Assembly and 40-0 in the Senate.
Upon signing it, Republican Governor Pete Wilson said, “This landmark legislation is a major step in our efforts to lower rates, provide consumer choice and offer reliable service, so that no one literally is left in the dark.”
Once Bush’s buddy Ken Lay abused the new system to pillage California, everyone blamed everyone else for the bill. But it was written, sponsored and passed (unanimously) by members of both parties and was signed enthusiastically by a Republican governor.

I know that they want to charge us for this service, but they must be paying out a considerable amount every time there is a storm. If they have to charge residents to get them out of this hole then ultimately they would be saving money. It would make much more sense for them to borrow the money to go underground and then use the slush fund money to pay back when they don’t need a slush fund to pay for repairs every winter.
I am not an economist, just a person with a personal budget. If I can see that it makes sense to save on future repairs, why can’t they?
