Caminos Flamencos will feature the classic Flamenco dancer Yaelisa in a performance of Flamenco en Color Vivo at 7 p.m., Friday, February 16, in Hanson Hall at The Sequoias in Portola Valley. Other artists appearing will be Jason McGuire, "El Rubio," guitarist, Felix de Lola, singer, and Melissa Cruz, dancer.
Yaelisa, founder of Caminos Flamencos, is considered one of the most gifted Flamenco artists of her generation. She is co-founder and artistic director of the New World Flamenco Festival presented each year at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in Irvine, CA. In 1993, Yaelisa received the Emmy Award or Choreography for a PBS program, and in 2005, Yaelisa and Caminos Flamencos received an Isadora Duncan Dance Award for Best Company Performance.
Guitarist McGuire has been twice nominated for an Isadora Duncan Dance Award; Felix de Lola, flamenco singer from Sevilla, Spain, composes music and verses for flamenco song and theatrical works. Melissa Cruz dances in the U.S. and Spain, and recently danced with Madrid's flamenco dance company, Nache Flamenca, at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
