It turns out the referee for the U.S. vs Italy World Cup match was suspended after the 1998 World Cup and was barred from refereeing in 2002 for "corruption."
He completely ruined the U.S./Italy game, ejecting three players and leaving the U.S. with only 8 field players and Italy with 9 for most of the second half. While these ejections came from fouls, only the Italian player deserved ejection...for punching McBride. A good referee would have done everything possible to avoid ejections in a game this important...like talking with the players involved. This guy was a joke.
