Wrong information in Info Palo Alto about our County Board of Education Palo Alto Issues, posted by Ze'ev Wurman, a resident of the Palo Verde neighborhood, on Sep 13, 2009 at 12:12 pm Ze'ev Wurman is a member (registered user) of Palo Alto Online
I noticed that Info Palo Alto, the annual PA Weekly publication, lists our representative to the County Board of Education as one Mary Anne Filice. Seems a bit funny, given that Grace Mah's election to this post Web Link was quite a newsworthy item less than a year ago. Makes one wonder how serious the fact-checking of the Weekly is, and whether that annual insert is worth the paper it is printed on.
As an aside, turns out that Mary Anne Filice is a school board member of San Benito County. Web Link

Yeah, and the article on the new Gunn High School construction lists the new construction as being done to meet projected growth of 2000 students -- there already is 2000 students at Gunn (maybe a few more). (This is not a small mistake when you consider the consensus of research that shows the learning suffers in schools larger than 2100 students.) The plan is for the high schools to accommodate 2300-2500 students each, at least, that's behind the main planning decisions.
Who is doing the Weekly's school fact checking? Thanks for catching the mistake, Ze'ev!
