Wag the dog? Tom Ridge says GWB exaggerated terrorist threats to win the 2004 election. Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by Tom, a resident of the Downtown North neighborhood, on Aug 22, 2009 at 11:48 am
Tom Ridge was the Secretary of Homeland Security under George W. Bush. He says that Bush cronies John Ashcroft and Don Rumsfeld attempted to escalate the national security threat level ahead of the 2004 election for political gain.

Another Bush error - The Department of Homeland Security. This act, akin to the Obama Czars, interposes another layer in the C&C.

How do you evaluate a threat? What was the threat evaluation 9/10/00?

Is anyone really surprised by this, given how the Bush/Cheney clique manipulated the events of 9/11 for their benefit? Is any shocked that the Bush/Cheney clique played politics with the innocents that dies on 9/11?

Played politics? Not sup, you can't get away with a throwaway line like that while I am still on line and acceptable to the blogmasters.
What would you have had him do, scrape up the terrorist ashes and return them with a guard of honor? I will admit to some disconcert with his reaction - every nation where 9/11 was celebrated should have had their embassies closed and their citizens expelled and all aid terminated. I would also challenge the censorship of the pictures of the jumpers. It should never be better to be an enemy of the US than to be a friend. Bush was too damn nice.

"What was the threat evaluation 9/10/00?"
If you meant to say 9/10/01, it was "fat, dumb, and happy." As we all know, Bush and the NSC blew off intel warnings of an impending attack while Bush enjoyed one of his many vacations. ON that particular day, Bush was practicing reading "A Pet Goat."

Paul, I specifically wrote 9/10/00. What was the difference between Clinton's last and Bush's first? As for the goat, give him [her?] a rest. It takes a finite time to establish the nature of the threat and chose a departure route.
