Daughters file claim against Palo Alto over mother's death.
The daughters of a 66-year-old woman who was hit and killed by an SUV in Palo Alto last year have filed a claim against the city, raising the possibility of a lawsuit.According to the claim filed by Phyllis Seidman's daughters, Jennifer and Karen, the city is liable for their mother's death on Dec. 2, 2008, because of the poor construction and maintenance of the crosswalk at Embarcadero Road and Cowper Street where she was hit.
When will society rebell against frivolous lawsuits? It is costing taxpayers lots of money that could have been spent on universal healthcare or environment.

Deep pockets?
Funny how the name of the woman driving the SUV that hit Ms. Seidman was kept quiet. Normally in newspapers I have read over the years one would read that 50 yr old so and so (name, city) was at the wheel of the vehicle (description) that struck the victim. Then there would be some statement, perhaps: Police are weighing evidence to decide whether to file charges.
In THIS case the driver was totally protected. Odd, indeed.

Whether or not this lawsuit is justified or not is one thing.
Another thing is that we, the residents, deem that this and other intersections on Embarcadero are dangerous. This accident has improved nothing. Possibly the reason for this lawsuit has nothing to do with money but possibly trying to improve safety on this road. If there is anything positive to come out of this accident, then a few no right turn signs could be it. The city has done nothing to improve safety, but this lawsuit just might.
