UN Sec General Ki-moon calls USA "deadbeat"..

Original post made by Perspective on Mar 12, 2009

I really think we should withdraw from the UN since we are such a drag on it.

BTW, we pay much more than 22% of the UN bill, since we also give from our own wallets UNICEF and other sub-sets of the UN. I seem to remember that we add up to 35% of the UN total expenditures.

I really think we should boycott the UN and just donate to our own organizations, helping other nations our OWN way. At least we won't rag on ourselves all the time. Disgusting.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House objected Thursday to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's description of the United States as a "deadbeat" donor to the world body.

Ban used the phrase Wednesday during a private meeting with lawmakers at the Capitol, one day after he met with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Ban's "word choice was unfortunate," given that the U.S. is the largest contributor to the United Nations.

The United States pays 22 percent of the organization's nearly $5 billion operating budget but is perennially late paying its dues.

Asked whether Ban should retract his comment, Gibbs said some recognition by Ban of the U.S. role would be appropriate.

"I think given the contribution that the American taxpayer makes, I do think it would be appropriate to acknowledge that role," Gibbs told reporters at his daily briefing.

Ban, apparently concerned about his choice of words, issued a statement late Wednesday saying the U.S. "generously supports the work of the U.N., both in assessed and voluntary contributions." Ban also said he enjoys "an excellent working relationship with the United States and appreciates the many ways that it supports the United Nations."

Ban, you live under the highest living standard in Asia, while your neighbors to the North live in abject slavery. That isn't just coincidence. We paid our dues in the dearest currency.

What return do we get from our investment in the UN?

They have been useless and cowardly in every engagement, remember Rwanda and the Balkans.

Bolton may have been right in saying that we should take out the top 7 floors of the building, it is bloated by paper pushers and time wasters, the application of some Management Science is needed, cut the fat.

A better body would be a united nations of democracies, with the Anglosphere as the security council, let the corrupt low trust dictators and failed states talk among themselves until they see the light, lets stop enabling them.

For a start, the UN site in New York should be sold, and the UN headquarters moved to the poorest member nation, where delegate spending would improve their lot. The US should insist on a super veto over agenda. US troops should NEVER be put under UN control. The cost of US military assistance to UN charter work should count toward US dues. Allowing Bolton to be Borked is another black mark against Bush.

My what thin skins. Whining about the UN again. You'd think it had some real power or influence.

Correct, Paul. Conservatives are not making ANY decisions at this point, and haven't for the majority of the decisions over the last 20 years. Note the consequences as time continues on...

The only decisions that Conservatives agreed with were those relating to overthrowing the Taliban and Saddam, and even then we were not happy with how little we did in an effort to "leave a small footprint", but we were ecsatatic at the surge. Result: 60 million living in democracy fashioned after their own culture. No longer averaging 70,000/year massacred and 100,000 tortured per year in Iraq. Good results, fewer innocents hurt and killed. Now THAT is HOPE AND CHANGE they can live with!

What else was Conservative: ok, putting up an impermeable border BEFORE setting up more enticements for illegals to enter the country, that was from us. Results? Less crime, less tax dollars on schools and prisons for illegals..Dems want nothing to do with completing this project.

What else..oh, reforming welfare so that silly women wouldn't keep having kids in order to "earn a living" off taxpayers paying for the kids. Made 'em go back to work, and now we have fewer kid being born into poverty. Good result. Fewer hurt innocents. Dems want to undo that.

What else: Parental notification laws on abortion ,..in states with these laws, there are now fewer teen pregnancies. Odd how that works. Good result, fewer hurt innocents. Dems trying to undo that.

What else: easier legal procurement of guns in some states..which now have fewer deaths from illegal guns as a result. Good result, fewer dead innocents. Dems trying to undo that.

What else: Vouchers in DC so that poor kids could go to good private schools. Obama and the Dems just annhilated that. Guess he didn't like the poor kids going to school with his girls.

What else: private financial support for stem cell research which has actually resulted in life helping and saving breakthroughs..no govt money involved! Dems just opened up a lot more FED money for EMBRYONIC stem cell "research" ( murder). Not one advance has been made in embryonic stem cell stuff, ....why is that? Where has been the private financial support for this "work"?

Conservative policies that were shouted down? Community Reinvestment Act changes. Changes in Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac regulation. NO bailout for failing businesses. NO "stimulus checks" to anyone. NO doubling of the budget deficit. NO doubling of the NATIONAL DEBT. And on and on.

Any power left to us anywhere in Congress or the White House? Nope.B Don't forget that as you see the results happen before your before your eyes.

"Conservatives are not making ANY decisions at this point, and haven't for the majority of the decisions over the last 20 years."

You mean Bush 41 and Bush 43 weren't conservatives or were'nt deciders? Didn't the latter call himself "the decider"? Didn't he tell the truth?

BTW, I was referring to the UN, the topic of this thread.
