The tennis courts in Rinconada Park are in need of repair. Courts 5 and 6 (at least) have major buckling and surface separation. This makes the courts very dangerous to play on. In addition, when the courts are resurfaced, the addition of short, low fences (at a minimum) at the sides of the ends of the courts would be very welcome. The courts are very close together, and balls frequently go into other's courts, creating a dangerous situation.
Palo Alto has a very active tennis community, and there is a fair amount of money here, too. If there is a problem paying for these repairs, I'll bet that the vast majority of players would be willing to contribute some money to give the courts the attention they deserve. Our city is considered state-of-the-art in many respects; why not our public tennis courts?

I know there's some sort of kaffufle between the libraries and the tennis courts in the south of Palo Alto, but I think that there is enough money in this city for the libraries, the tennis courts, _and_ the schools.

By the way, I just looked at the tennis thread (Web Link) about libraries, and noticed that there is an Andrew over there as well. It isn't me, but we seem to share the same concerns.

Bemused -- if only you were right! Unfortunately, you might add employee pensions, medical benefits, ill-concieved public works projects, graft, insentiate city council members....and more ... to your 'one word'.
We don't even have enough to pave and maintain our streets. It's not surprising that tennis courts are falling apart along with the rest of the infrastructure. A lot of our city employees will, however, have nice retirements.
