Local athletes sign up with their colleges of choice

Emily Hobbs received an appropriate sendoff from her classmates on Tuesday after signing a national letter of intent to row for Boston College next fall. Her friends and classmates in attendance in the Gators' gym sang "Row, row, row your boat" for Hobbs.

I'm absolutely in favor of student athletes getting into great colleges but why do they get to hear so much earlier than students who aren't athletes? It's very demoralizing for the rest of us whose apps won't even be considered until 2009!
