Board Calls for Applicants to Fill Trustee's Unfinished Term

The Board of Trustees will appoint a district resident to complete the rest of Fong's term, starting on Dec. 8, 2008 and continuing until the first Monday in December of 2009, when the term expires. The appointed trustee could choose to stand for election in November of 2009.
Applicants for the position must be registered voters and residents of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District. The district encompasses Cupertino, Palo Alto, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, most of Sunnyvale and parts of San Jose, Santa Clara, Saratoga and unincorporated Santa Clara County. Those who wish to apply must submit a resume and a letter summarizing their experience, education and interest relative to the Mission of the Board of Trustees and the board's Roles and Responsibilities. In addition, applicant letters should address the following questions:
• Why did you apply for the position? How does the Foothill-De Anza trustee position fit your personal and professional goals?
• How to you define and evaluate ethics in the decisions and behavior of a trustee?
• How would you balance competing needs in a collective bargaining environment?
The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. Dec. 1. An orientation meeting will be held for all applicants at 3 p.m. on Dec. 2.
All applications will be forwarded for review to members of the Board of Trustees. Any candidate selected by at least two trustees will be invited to interview with the board at a public meeting on Dec. 8 at 6 p.m.
The Board of Trustees consists of seven members; five are elected at large to four-year terms and two are student trustees who are elected annually by students their respective campuses, Foothill College and De Anza College. The board meets once or twice a month, as needed. Trustees are compensated in accordance with California Education Code section 72425, not to exceed $750 a month, and are eligible to participate in the district's health benefits plan.
The Foothill-De Anza Community College District serves more than 45,000 students annually at two campuses, Foothill College in Los Altos Hills and De Anza College in Cupertino, and has an annual general fund budget of $230 million.
